AFTER CARE

Following the aftercare routine after your treatment is vital to achieve the best results.

Please review the relevant instructions and refer to them as necessary.

If during the healing process, you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact us.

PRE-TREATMENT INFORMATION (Microblading / PMU)

Please avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Do not drink caffeine the morning of your appointment or take any blood thinning medication (such as ibuprofen/ fish oils).

Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.

If you have any medical conditions or allergies that may affect your healing / treatment, please contact me and let me know ASAP.

Discontinue use of retinols / AHA Skin care creams 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Avoid using these for 30 days post treatment and 2 weeks prior to your top up appointment.

Avoid professional chemical peels for 4 weeks prior to your treatments.

Please be aware that the national blood service does not accept donations of blood for 4 months after your micropigmentation treatment.

Your eyebrow enhancement is a two part procedure - the initial appointment and then your top up appointment 5-8 weeks later.

Please be prepared for the colour intensity to be significantly darker and sharper immediately after your procedure. This will soften when the skin heals. The healing process can take upto 14 days.

REMEMBER

When healing, you will experience the following: redness, tenderness, itching, flakiness. This is normal.

  • Stage 1 of healing: Darkening of the pigment for the first 5-7 day (which can be up to 50% darker than pigment chosen and how the results will be)

  • Stage 2 of healing: Flaking / dryness / scabbing of pigment (between day 5-14)

  • Stage 3 of healing: Lightening of pigment, they will look extremely light and almost as if they have disappeared (between days 7-21).

  • Stage 4 of healing: The return of the pigment colour (between days 21-28). There may be some gaps at this point, which will be perfected at your top up appointment.

  • At around 4-6 weeks the true colour will be visible, when the external skin has healed.

  • At 4 weeks the internal skin should be completely healed (if you are feeling less than 100% at your appointment, or become unwell during your healing period, your lips may take longer to heal).

  • Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is to be expected, especially after one session. This is the purpose of the top up appointment, allowing us to fine tune your enhancement.

  • Please ensure you are booking your 5–10 week top up appointment at your earliest convenience.

  • If you do not book your top up appointment within 12 weeks, your top up appointment will be classed as a 3-8 month top up and this will be an additional cost.

Long term care:

  • Use a good sunscreen. Sun exposure will fade your eyebrow enhancement.

  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or an MRI scan, please inform the technician of your micro-pigmentation enhancement.

  • Please inform the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you may not be eligible to give blood for 4 months post application.

LIP ENHANCEMENT

You may experience the following symptoms for 14-21 days:

  • Swelling and redness.

  • Tenderness.

  • Dry flaking skin as the skin heals.

  • Dry skin that may remain for 3 weeks.

  • These symptoms are a normal part of the healing process.

  • DO NOT ITCH, PICK OR TOUCH as you will heal unevenly and risk infection from bacteria.

Day of procedure:

  • Ice packs can be applied to the lips to reduce swelling and help with sensitivity.

  • Lightly pat the lips with damp cotton wool every hour.

  • Re-apply healing balm after each clean.

Daily care to follow for 1 week:

  • Apply a very thin layer of healing balm regularly (every 2-3 hours)

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Drink through a straw for a week

  • Avoid getting the lips wet and submerged in water for 1 week, if the lips get wet, dab with dry tissue, and reapply the balm.

  • Some itching is normal.

  • Do not receive skincare beauty treatments for 5 days after the application of your enhancement.

  • No make-up should be applied close to the lips for 1 week after your treatment. Facial makeup is fine to apply, but nothing directly to your lips.

  • No makeup or products in or around the lips.

  • No kissing for 5 days to prevent infection.

  • Avoid eating salty and spicy foods for 5 days.

Avoid for 2 weeks:

  • Do not expose your enhancement to direct sun, tanning treatments, Jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools, and direct shower spray.

  • Do not use lip plumping products.

  • Do not receive lip filler or any injections in the lips.

Important:

If you suffer with cold sores at present or any time in the past, use an anti-herpes medication (like Zovirax – but please consult your pharmacist to obtain the right medication for you), 5 times a day for a 1-week period. Acyclovir tablets can also be used a few days before and during healing to prevent an outbreak (again, please consult your pharmacist about the right medication for you).

If an outbreak does occur its usually on the 3rd day of healing.

WHAT TO EXPECT.

Remember, your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after your treatment.

  • Day 1-2 the colour will appear darker.

  • Around day 2-5 they may get itchy, and flakes of colour may come away from the skin, this will come off in patches and is completely normal.

  • Once the flakes are all off the pigment may appear light in colour – the chosen pigment will blossom during the 4-week healing stage.

  • Around 4-6 weeks the true colour will be visible, when the external skin has healed.

  • At 4 weeks the internal skin should be completely healed (if you are feeling less than 100% at your appointment, or become unwell during your healing period, your lips may take longer to heal).

  • Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is to be expected. This is the purpose of the top up appointment, allowing us to fine tune your enhancement.

  • Please ensure you are booking your 6–10 week top up appointment at your earliest convenience.

  • If you do not book your top up appointment within 12 weeks, your top up appointment will be classed as a 3-8 month top up and will be an additional cost.
